عملٌ فنّي كتب كلماته شاعر العاميّة الكبير صلاح جاهين، وأبدع موسيقاه أحد أعلام الملحّنين سيد مكّاوي، وقُدّم لأوّل مرّة كصورةٍ غنائيّة فى الإذاعة المصريّة عام 1957. بالتعاون مع سفارة جمهوريّة مصر العربيّة لدى مملكة البحرين، تقدّم فرقة باليه أوبرا القاهرة ”الليلة الكبيرة“ في عرضٍ غنائي راقص وبصياغةٍ أوركستراليّة جديدة. يصوّر العرض مظاهر الاحتفالات الشعبيّة التي تصاحب موالد الأولياء المنتشرة فى أنحاء مصر، والتي تمتد عادةً لبضعة أيّام وتختتم بالليلة الكبيرة – التي تمثّل ذروة هذا الاحتفال.

In collaboration with the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Cairo Opera Ballet Company presents El Leila El Kebira, one of the most famous musical works in the Middle East. Written by the famous poet of colloquial Arabic Salah Jahin and composed by Sayed Mekkawy, it was first broadcasted on Egyptian radio in 1957, now represented as an orches-tra and lyrical dance. The performance depicts the popular festivals accompanying the birthdays of Sufi saints throughout Egypt, which usually extend over a few days and end with a great night ”El Leila El Kebira“ — this event is the culmination of these celebrations.
